MESIS. Implementing the Outsport method

Outsport Method

MESIS: New pedagogical tools and e-learning resources for coaches and PE teachers are coming with the Outsport method

The Erasmus+ MESIS project aims to foster LGBTQIA+  inclusive communities through sport  by developing specific pedagogical tools and competencies in the field of the “Education Through Sport” (ETS) methodology and SOGIESC discrimination (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Gender Expression and Sexual Characteristics).

MESIS is a follow-up of the Outsport project (2017-2019) and it’s based on its pedagogical achievements collected in the Outsport Training Toolkit, which was the outcome of a mutual learning process based on the first European research on LGBTI people experience in sport.

The Outsport method is a training and coaching approach for youth and adults that uses sport as a learning tool to foster personal growth and social competencies in the field of diversity, inclusion, and community building.

The MESIS project, started at the beginning of 2023, addresses the need to strengthen what has been done and focus towards those who work in the field. In September 2023, the Outsport method was also recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The MESIS project focuses on the following challenges:

  •  to offer concrete tools for schools,  sport associations and local communities in the original language;
  • to address educators with new skills and competences in the field of LGBTI issues by offering replicable and transferible practices in the original language;
  • to improve the accessibility of ETS practices and methodology by creating digital and e-learning tools.
