European Week of Sport: The Outsport Method presented in Rome under the MESIS project

The European Week of Sport

On the occasion of the European Week of Sport 2024 (September 23-30, 2024), the Outsport network in AiCS, AiCS’s LGBTI Department and the Equal Opportunity Commission are pleased to present the initiative “THE OUTSPORT METHOD FOR DIVERSITY & INCLUSION”, with the support of Roma Capitale LGBT+ Office and the cooperation of Lupi Roma Outsport and Gaynet (Sala del Carroccio, Piazza del Campidoglio 1, Roma, from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm).

This event promotes an innovative approach to Diversity & Inclusion and team-building strategies through sports, targeting sports organizations, educational institutions, and businesses, with a particular focus on the role of the safeguarding officer in Italy in preventing discrimination.

We have invited the Departments of Sport and Education of Roma Capitale, the Sport Unit of the Council of Europe, the UNAR (National Office Against Racial Discrimination) and the National Sport Department.

Outsport and its follow ups

Born from the first research project on the experiences of LGBTI people in Europe (Outsport 2017-2019), the Outsport method was mentioned in September 2023 by the World Health Organization in its latest publication on promoting psychological and physical well-being through sports.

The method is currently being implemented within the European follow-up project MESIS, promoted by AiCS along with four other partners across Europe, through which more than 60 educators and sports professionals have been trained.

The initiative will showcase the methodology and its practical applications by significant organizations, including the Amateur Football League, and the development opportunities for stakeholders in the sports world, schools, and businesses. Finally, a practical demonstration will be conducted in collaboration with ASD Lupi Roma Outsport, actively involving the participants.

The event is organized by AiCS (Italian Association for Culture and Sport) through the LGBTI Department, the Outsport Office, and the Equal Opportunities Commission.
